Indiana Jones and his female partner team up to explore a dangerous pyramid deep in the jungle rumored to contain a powerful, magic jewel from an ancient civilization. They will need to use their wits, gear, and a bit of luck to find the jewel and escape with their lives!
This game is either for 2-4 players competing against each other or 4-8 players competing as 2-player teams (with one player as Indy and the other as the Heroine). Each team moves, fights, and explores as one, with the Indy and Heroine players taking turns playing Explore cards to move their player pawn through the pyramid's corridors and rooms on the game map. Each Heroine provides either a bonus or a penalty to movement or combat (presumably, some are adept and helpful partners, like Marion Ravenwood, and some are actively working against Indy, like Elsa Schneider). Indy can land on another team's pawn to fight that other team and force them to trade Heroines. In a team game, that means that the Heroine players have to trade positions and now have different partners.
Each team's ability to move and fight is based on the Indy character's power level, a value between 3 and 6 representing Indy's health. Power may be lost due to damage from a trap or losing a fight and may be gained by finding medicine throughout the pyramid. If Indy's power level falls below 3, the team loses all their equipment and reset their pawn back to the start of the current floor they are on.
The players explore rooms in the pyramid, discovering traps and monsters to fight. Combat is handled by rolling one six-sided die and adding the result to Indy's current power level plus any other bonus or penalty. If the total exceeds the monster's power, the player wins and may take the equipment listed on the monster card (medicine, key to open a locked door, whip or pistol to aid in combat, or a mine car to move faster). The treasure room that is every player's goal is found on the 3rd floor of the pyramid. The first player team to reach this room and win a fight against a monster with a power level of 11 takes the jewel and escapes the pyramid as victor.
